1 Supplement with plant sterols

Plant sterols are natural compounds found in foods such as nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables that help to lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol - often referred to as 'bad' cholesterol - by reducing its absorption in the gut. Fortified products such as spreads, yoghurts and milk also offer a convenient way to include them in your diet.

Research in Mayo Clinic Proceedings shows that consuming 2g of plant sterols daily can lower LDL cholesterol by up to 10 per cent. Pairing these with a heart-healthy diet rich in fibre and low in saturated fat supports overall heart health.
