AVOIDING DIET CULTURE AND PRACTICING SUSTAINABLE EATING IN TEENAGERS

The constant bombardment of unrealistic beauty standards, fad diets, and restrictive eating can lead to disordered eating, low self-esteem, and a lifetime of unhealthy relationships with food. So, how can teenagers avoid the pitfalls of diet culture and develop a positive, sustainable relationship with food?

FOCUS ON WHOLE FOODS

■ Eat a variety of whole foods: Focus on whole, unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Aim for 5-7 servings of colourful vegetables and fruits daily.

■ Include plant-based meals: Aim for 2-3 plant-based meals per week, such as lentil soup, veggie stir-fries, or bean salads.
