Harrisson Ford said yes to a starring role in a spin-off of Yellowstone when there was “no script” to speak of, and Cillian Murphy did the same for director Christopher Nolan and his epic film, Oppenheimer.

All that is to say Toni Collette was in good acting company when she took a leap of faith and signed on to star in sci-fi film Mickey 17 without so much as reading a sentence from the screenplay.

“I mean, it doesn’t get any better than this,” the actress, 52, tells WHO of working with “visionary” director Bong Joon-ho. “I actually said yes before something I have never done before. I still can’t believe that Bong asked me to come on this adventure with him. I adore him as a human. I adore him as a storyteller. There is nobody like him.”

Coming from an Oscar-nominated actress with three decades’ worth of TV shows and films, that’s high praise for the South Korean director. Yet, Collette goes one step further with her adulation for Joon-ho, who has become known for his unique films since 2019’s Parasite won the Best Picture Oscar and put him on the world stage.
