
I have written this book for you, no matter who you are. I know that your body knows; this book is your first step in awakening its innate intelligence through three guiding principles so that you can map a path to navigate through all areas of life.
PRINCIPLE ONE: INNER CLIMATE
The ideal Inner Climate inside the human body is warm and moist. This is the perfect state to allow life within us, and thus our own life, to thrive any deviation from this can lead to disease. Almost every day, I meet people who are either too hot and inflamed, dry from depletion and exertion, or just stagnant, heavy and humid due to immobility and over nourishment.
Our main job in ayurveda is to return to and maintain an ideal Inner Climate, where our inner army is healthy enough to take on any battle, so homoeostasis can become effortless. Once achieved, this means we no longer have to dissect the needs of our body down to which micronutrients to consume, or strive to achieve balance organ by organ, system by system.
PRINCIPLE TWO: CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS
All life on the planet is aligned with the cycle of the sun and moon, and, depending on the phase of the day, the juices flowing in your body will vary in support of a specific function or activity. According to ayurveda, day and night have three sub-phases, making six in a 24-hour period. The first three are when the sun's energies are at their highest, and all things diurnal are in action mode. I call this the solar experience. These subphases are marked by the sun's rise, peak and decline. During this time, the wet Earth wakes and heats up - enabling its resources to be utilised for transformation - and eventually dehydrates as evening arrives. A similar situation occurs in our bodies.
