Whether you're hitting the gym and don't have the energy left to whip up a healthy meal or you simply don't like cooking, creating nutritionally-balanced meals is well worth the effort so much so that celebrity personal trainer and nutrition expert Scott Harrison, founder of acclaimed fitness programme The Six Pack Revolution (thesixpackrevolution.com), says eating well is one of the biggest contributing factors to the success of your exercise regime. 'The nutrition side is 90 per cent of the puzzle,' says Harrison. 'You can exercise 50 times a week, but if you don't sort out the food and you're still eating rubbish, the inflammation stays, the anxiety stays, the sleepless nights stay, the fat stays. You've probably heard the 80/20 exercise-to-nutrition ratio, but I say 90/10 to really drill down that, actually, it's everything.'
That's why Harrison's Six Pack Revolution and new book High Protein Meals in Minutes, take a food-first approach. 'Most programmes are fitness programmes with a bit of nutritional advice, so they're focusing on the 20 per cent and not giving any real guidance on the 80 per cent. Six Pack's a nutrition programme with loads of exercise and loads of mindset [advice], so that's why it works.'
Celebrating food that's high in protein - as 'protein is a crucial part of every meal that helps repair tissues, build muscle and support metabolic functions' - Harrison's recipes are accessible to all. Why? Because they use easy to find ingredients, take less than 30 minutes to cook and (honestly, we've tried them) taste delicious. You won't find any calorie counting here because, as Harrison explains, 'calories are only a fraction of the story, and actually, a small fraction', but what you will find is nutrient-dense recipe inspiration.
