THE mum of a Scots taxi driver murdered by a loyalist gunman is praying for his killer's soul after his death last week.
Bridie McGoldrick was so consumed by grief when her son Michael was shot dead in County Armagh in 1996 she and her husband made a suicide pact.
But they both found solace in charity work transforming the lives of destitute families.
Now, following news of the death of his murderer Clifford McKeown last week, Glaswegian Bridie has revealed how she summons the strength each day to pray for mercy for the killer, who died in hospital just months after being released from his 24-year prison sentence.
The mum, who brought up her son Catholic in the Gorbals with late husband Michael, said: "I'd always had forgiveness in my heart.
"The forgiveness was a daily thing - I had to keep asking God for the grace to keep going to forgive. That's how I have lived my life.
"The only thing that has changed is I now ask God to have mercy on his soul. It's his soul that matters more now.
