GARETH, VIA EMAIL
I've seen a hard drive full of games on Amazon. Is it legit?
Reader. No. It is not legit.
A But you absolutely knew that already, didn't you? You saw the hard drive full of tens of thousands of games and thought to yourself, quite rightly, that something was off. £40 is barely enough to cover the cost of the drive, let alone any licensing, so there's no way something like this can be on the level.
You realised, too, that selling such drives for money is a really bad idea, particularly if Dave Nintendo gets a sniff of it. You imagined the slavering bite of his corporate attack dog lawyers. And then, despite everything, you bought it, didn't you, reader? You thought that, ooh, that'll be fun. Emulators and that? You love emulators and that. If you bought the hard drive full of hooky games, you could have some fun with emulators.
Whether what you did was a crime is, uh, eh, let's say it's unlikely anyone's going to be knocking on your door. Did Amazon do crimes by selling it? It's a grey area, given that every example GaGu could find technically doesn't touch Amazon's warehouses, just its storefront. Bezos was merely an unwitting middleman. His nethers will, inevitably, remain unmunched by Nintendo's legal beagles.
But. But! Did you at least get a bargain? No. What you got was the lowest possible quality spinningrust hard drive filled with things you shouldn't have and also, if Guru's info is correct, viruses numbering in the hundreds. Your computer is now part of a massive botnet. Your mum's never been so disappointed. Hope you're proud of yourself.
